There is there are diferencias y ejemplos con oraciones

“There is” y “there are” son formas verbales que se utilizan para indicar la existencia o la ausencia de algo. Ambas significan “Hay“.

  • • “There is” es singular (una sola cosa/persona).
  • • “There are” es plural (dos o más cosas/personas).

Presente y Afirmativo

There is / There are + lo que hay
Ejemplos:
  • Hay una persona – There is a person.
  • Hay dos personas – There are two persons.

Forma Negativa

There is / are + not / no + objeto
Ejemplos:
  • There is not a person that can help you. – No hay persona que pueda ayudarle.
  • There are no employees. – No hay empleados.

Forma Interrogativa

Se invierte el orden: primero el verbo y luego la palabra “there”.

Is / Are + there + lo que hay?
Ejemplos:
  • Is there a pencil? – ¿Hay un lápiz?
  • Are there any apples for me to eat? – ¿Hay manzanas para comer?

El Pasado: There was y There were

Utilizamos “there was” (singular) y “there were” (plural) para decir "Había" o "Hubo".

Ejemplos en pasado:
    Afirmativo (Había)
  • There was a dog in the house. – Había un perro.
  • There were many opportunities to learn. – Había muchas oportunidades.
    • Negativo (No había)
  • There was not a dog in the house. – No había un perro en la casa.
  • There were no flowers. – No había flores.
    • Interrogativo (¿Había?)
  • Was there a problem? – ¿Había un problema?
  • Were there big cars? – ¿Había carros grandes?
